General information about Kampot

little quiet city a few kilometers from the Gulf of Thailand, Kampot does not lack of charm. Capital of the province known worldwide for its black pepper , the city has retained its authenticity with its lovely river front. It is the starting point for excursions to the Damrei and Bokor mountains offering stunning panoramic views over Cambodia and even Vietnam. We regret the old abandoned casino on Bokor mountain who lost his ghostly side and the redevelopment of the Bokor project that will completly transform the place into some luxurious complex. A great loss for tourists but also for locals who came there to picnic with family during Chinese New Year (the access to the site was free). The small island of Koh Tonsay is also part of the attractions of Kampot. Many agencies offer to take you there sometimes in addition to a trip to Bokor.
Besides its pepper Kampot is also famous for its fish sauce and durian fruits. One durian scupture is dominating the main roundabout of the city. The city is also sometimes a starting point for exploring Kep 25 km away but rather we advise you to visit Kep by staying there for the night.

Practical information and advices

Kampot is fairly small town, it can easily be explored on foot. No need to hire motodops or tuk-tuks. Often guesthouses rent bikes.
